Sleeping Tips For Kids
There are a number of ways to ensure that your kid has a good night sleep and enough rest. Ensuring that your child is sleeping correctly is especially important for babies. This is because they still can’t move around on their own. Doing this also ensures that parents lower the risk of the baby dying in their sleep. The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the main cause of most deaths in infants.
In order to ensure the safety of your child, you can follow some of these sleeping tips. When it comes to SIDS, there are four main ways to reduce its risks. Make sure that child sleeps on their back and not on their side or tummy. The baby must have the safest and most comfortable bedding and cot. Always uncover the baby’s head when it’s sleeping and keep it away from smoke.
Other Sleeping Tips:
Keep Cot Clear
Always keep the baby’s cot clear. Remove all soft toys, pillows and cot bumpers so that baby does not suffocate when they roll while sleeping. Most babies have died due to cots filled with toys and pillows.
Uncover Baby’s Head While Sleeping
Remember to always uncover baby’s head while sleeping. Cover only the child’s body and not its head as this could cause them to suffocate. Instead of blankets, rather use a sleeping bag just to be safe. Choose those sleeping bags that come with fitted arms and neck holes.
Choose The Right Mattress
Get a mattress that is firm and fits into the cot. This way there will be no spaces on the edge of the cot. These gaps could easily cause the head of the baby to get jammed.
Put Them On Their Back
Always let the child sleep on their back. This should be done until the baby turns at least 6 months. By this time they can roll on their tummies and move on their own. Never let them sleep on their tummies or side as they can easily suffocate.
Don’t Overdress Baby
It’s important to keep the baby warm but don’t overdo it. Too much clothing can cause it to overheat and greatly affect the baby. When indoors, leave the baby’s head uncovered as this helps prevent overheating. Only cover the child’s head when outdoors as this is important to prevent them from getting sick.
Buy A Cot That Is The Best Quality
Choosing a cot for the baby is very important. Cots should not be painted with lead paint and have gaps that are too wide. Also they must not be too low as this will cause the child to easily climb over them and put them in danger.
Keeps Nannies And Babysitters Informed
Make sure that the people who look after your child know how to put the child to sleep. They should be qualified and experienced enough to be informed about these issues.
